Menu categories
Menu categories define the structure of every weekly menu. They are the rows you see on the menu — for example "Soups", "Main courses", "Desserts", or "Sandwiches".
Instead of setting up that structure from scratch each week, you define it once here and it is automatically available on every menu you create.
What a category controls
- Name — the label shown on the menu (e.g. "Vegetarian option")
- Display order — whether it appears above or below other categories
- Maximum number of meals per day — for example, a "Main course" category might allow up to 3 choices per day
- Serving time — optional, to indicate when this category is served (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Creating a menu category
Go to Administration → Menu categories and click + Create. Give the category a clear name that kitchen staff and customers will understand at a glance.
Set the display order so the categories appear on the menu in the logical sequence you want (e.g. soup before main course before dessert).
Click Save when done.
Changing the order of categories
You can drag and drop categories in the list to change the order they appear on menus.
Changes to menu categories affect all future menus. Existing published menus are not changed.
